THE SAC SERIES
Most of you have by now heard us talking about the SAC series or challenge event. But many of you are not aware as to what this is, so let us point you in the right direction.
The FIM is the sole controlling body of motorcycle events throughout the world. Below the FIM are the Continental Unions (CONUS), of which Africa is known as the AMU (African Motorcycle Union). This is made up of 12 member countries all of whom are affiliated to the FIM. (i.e. MSA). The object of both the FIM and the AMU is to promote motorcycle activities throughout Africa, be it motocross, enduro/baja, road racing, historic bikes or even touring throughout Africa on a bike.
Each year an Amu event is held in one of the member countries for each of the activities. Mauritius are hosting a road racing event, Namibia are hosting the Enduro and Kenya are hosting the motocross event in 2007. However, it is normally difficult to compete in countries far away such as Morocco or Algeria etc. Therefore the AMU have broken Africa up into 3 sectors, SAC (Southern Africa Challenge), NAC (Northern Africa Challenge) and CAC (Central African Challenge). All sectors are hosting both mx and off road amongst themselves, with an event in each country.
The SAC comprises of South Africa (Botswana included), Namibia, Zimbabwe and Zambia. Each country will be putting on an mx event and an Enduro/Baja type of event. Last year, Calvin Collington, Eric Visser, Kevin Branch, Kyle Poppleton and Renaldo Gouws, took part in the Enduro events. This year, an amazing number of riders have signed themselves up to do the Enduro in all 4 countries. As Namibia are also hosting the AMU Enduro at the same time as their SAC event, our riders will be competing against riders from all over Africa, which is an awesome experience. Whilst two mx riders intend to compete in the MX events in Southern Africa and hopefully travel up to Kenya for the AMU motocross.
If you want to be involved, or assist in sponsoring these true enthusiasts, please contact the club and talk to us. If you want to ride in these events, you will require a National MSA licence, plus the extended medical cover of R250,000, then you need to apply for your AMU licence which costs US$30.00. The AMU licence allows you to participate in the SAC series as well.

We hope to attract a lot of riders to all these events, and with a bit of luck some TV coverage for the event in Tuli Block. So, if you want to advertise your company or product, this is one way of doing it! You will get an awful lot of mileage out of it, by calculations 8000 kms worth!!
